Ralphs Store Mismanaged At Night And Prices Too High

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The store on G Street in San Diego needs a lot of attention. Main doors closed at night for some unknown reason, despite store still being open for hours, forcing customers to walk up and down a steep parking lot ramp to enter and exit the store. Night shift supervisor Michelle is rude, arrogant, not smart and incompetent. Prices are way too high and out of control. Face detection of "selected" customers criminalizes the innocent shoppers and has extra surveillance on them for no good reason. Some dangerous homeless people camp out by the store. I have encountered several expired products still on the shelf for sale. Unfriendly place in general. Corporate management needs to investigate what is going on there and make necessary changes immediately, especially night shift supervisor.

Deceptive Practices By Ralphs

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Original review Oct 09, 2023
First and foremost, Ralphs has stooped to a low-level, deceptive tactic of putting a low price in BIG numbers on their in-store sign - only to find out - when you read the small print on it, which please do - that you get the low price only if you buy 3 or more, use your Ralphs shoppers card, and/or a digital coupon, for example. Haagen-Dazs for $2.99 in big numbers, only that's when you have to do these other things, listed in tiny print, to get it. Otherwise, it's $4.99 or higher each. Very tricky, slick and deceptive even if maybe not illegal. Maybe they figure that once you realize you were hornswaggled that you won't return the item or put it back, you would just pay the full price for it while there. Do not do this - file complaints with the BBB and attorney general for unfair and deceptive practices. The small-print requirement at purchase should at least be as large as the price on the sign. There is also less in the packages now - always read the net weight and remember what it was so you know when they reduced it again. Same with the pricing which seems to go up daily. I used to shop at Ralphs a lot, now I don't and when I do, it's only the real deals. Grocery Outlet has got most of my business - they are fair and not deceptive. In fact, they often cite Ralphs inflated prices as being the price that "elsewhere" charges to make their prices look better! Ralphs also does not open most self-checkouts, maybe to save on electricity, leaving long customer lines. They value money over shoppers. Ralphs is part of the Kroger chain, and I believe from having to use such low morality standards that each one could be in financial trouble. I also noticed second-hand products when buying at Ralphs - product not quite right, that should have been tossed out on the assembly line. Ralphs could and should be better. Regulators should investigate. Consumers should launch these investigations, too. Do your diligence if/when shopping at Ralphs or Krogers - they have gone rogue!

I have shpped at Ralphs for decades. There are many stores nearby and I now shop there too. Today the Ralphs on Pacific Coast Hwy and Calle Mayor in Torrance Ca had deceptive pricing on several items.

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
When I entered the store I saw the large 3.99 sign for 2 lbs of strawberries. When I checked out, I was surprised to find there were errors on my receipt. That was 7.99. I purposely stand in line for the clerk I recognize who always makes my day with his great attitude. OH NO! YOU MUST HAVE THE RALPHS APP FOR THAT You need the QR code. I asked if someone there could help me put it on my phone- they handed me a pamphlet on how to do this. The manager said he is forbidden from helping. Next my orange juice appeared to be 3.49- OH NO! That is for 5 bottles. I can get it at Walmart for 3.98 and not for 4.49 per bottle. The store used to be more busy. This trickiness is not allowed in Ca. Decades ago my Susy's Deals was fined because they kept putting 5.00 items on the $3 rack. It was such a large fine my favorite store was gone in 60 seconds. POOF! Please stop this irritating deception. No, I did not see the QR symbol on the sign. Yes it was there. I can go to my other stores and not have this upset. Hollywood Riviera Section is filled with seniors. If you cannot/will not help us there are many other people who will. I live on Calle Mayor and your store has been a habit. I already shop other stores as well. Your store used to be so busy. Do not eliminate your customer base.

Charged for two bags when only one was used. We all have to eat so grocery chains dont require good customer service or being helpful.

Manager April

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
Good Evening. I was in your store shopping today and u input the incorrect ALT ID. I understand that employees are extremely exhausted, however when I input my correct ALT ID the cashier April snapped at me and I apologized to no avail. Needless to say I will never set foot in that Ralph's again. She should know that people may have disabilities that prevent them from remembering properly and to treat everyone with respect. If she, the manager, can't be respectful, how can you expect anyone she trains to be.

CASHIER'S BAD ATTITUDE

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
On 05/01/22, at Ralph's (645 W. 9th St. L.A., CA), I shopped and picked up a FREE ITEM ( electronically received coupon for Mary Go .... Sea Salt Cracker as FREE). I thought it was free as my Member card saved that coupon. However it was charged $5.49. I never tried that cracker, so I decided to try as it was free, but it wasn't free. I felt bad and tried to return it right away at the store. As I paid as Self-Pay kiosk, the lady told me to go to regular cashier. I did, then regulate cashier name Maria yelled at me in front of all other customers that Express Lane can't accept return but she still started to process return. Then, she started to pick me on; she said she couldn't find that item from receipt even though I pointed the item in the receipt, she then intentionally (very obvious) slow down processing while keep scolding me. I felt so embarrassed and sorry to the customers in the line as she was keep sarcastically saying/treating me implying a poor freeloader who troubled many people for $5.49. I tried to see her name tag, then she said, "Oh, tried to see my name? My name is Maria." very provoking tone and she laughed. This Ralph's employees' attitude is very poor....all my neighbors complain and I saw other customers also raised voice few times. I tried to let this incident go, I couldn't forget until today after 5 days (making my mood so down all days), so I am reporting. BTW, according to last in self pay kiosk, the coupon should be downloaded from App. I received email from Ralph's for free coupon, and downloaded that to my Ralph's card. Thank you.

Extremely poor corporate policies

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
The personnel at our local Ralph's store are very helpful, efficient and good. I have nothing but praise for them. However, Ralph's corporate policies are extraordinarily poor, and local officials have no power to change these corporate policies, although the local Ralph's employees disagree with these policies. There are two main problems: First, we live only minutes from where most US produce is grown, yet Ralphs cannot manage to get fresh produce. Its lettuce products routinely are black and slimy before the "sell by" date. This is the fault of corporate, not the local store. Second, When one does a Ralph's pickup, Ralph's no longer provides written receipts. Instead it says to use the e receipt. However, the e receipt is always wrong because it lists charges for all items ordered, but Ralphs NEVER has all items ordered. Thus Ralph's takes our money, then refuses to provide either a correct written receipt or a correct e receipt. This problem indicates several deeper problems with Ralphs: (1) Ralphs has outmoded, incorrect, clumsy software that it does not update, so as to allow correct ordering and correct receipts. (2) Ralphs has a poor shipping system that does not deliver fresh produce. (3) Ralph's CEO makes more than $22 million per year, whereas the median Ralph's employee makes less than $25,000 per year. (4) Ralphs values profits and high CEO salaries more than customer service and fairness to its employees.
