I bought a set of stamps from a store as the Post Office across the street was out - what do we want them for?? I didn't know if I was going to need them because there was a chance I didn't have to send the letter.

The cashier told me I could return them if I didn't use them. Then I went to return them a week later and the manager told me that I could not return them. They said they couldn't take the stamps back!!! I very rarely use stamps.

What do I want 16 of them for? They will last me 30 years? ?

Actually, and I mean this respectfully, theyactually are prohibited from returning them. There are several reasons for this that are security related, and related to laws post-911 with all the anthrax and other biological related issues.

As an example, unless they put it under luminol, they will not know if there are bodily fluids on them, biological weapons like anthrax (2001) or ricin (2003), or if there are traces of illegal drugs placed under them, which then would make the person whom uses them after you returned them federally liable for anything they send with them. Now, I know these are extreme near conspiracy-theory reasons, but they are actual legitimate reasons they cannot refund them. Even if you tried returning them at a Post Office, you likely would be denied for these same reasons. While you may have no intention of having done these things, there are people that do indeed commit these actions.

There are actually a number of items stores are prohibited from returning.

The first thing that comes ti m mind, and completely unrelated but one everyone can relate to, is feminine underwear sold outside of the package. Most stores, citing health and safety laws, refuse to return them.

The same policy goes with alcohol and tobacco.

While I'm not an employee or agent of Ralphs, I'm sorry you experienced this situation, but hope you understnad why they refused.
